Sisedi Investment Group appoints Renella Matthews
Sisedi Investment Group has appointed Renella Matthews as its new investment support specialist, marking a significant milestone in the young finance professional’s journey from aspiring student to industry newcomer.
For Matthews, joining the 100% female-owned investment company is more than a career move; it is the fulfilment of a long-held ambition.
“I actually reached out to Sisedi for the first time when I was in Grade 12 because I knew it was the kind of company I wanted to be a part of one day," she told Careers. Joining the company feels like a full-circle moment, she added.
A recent graduate with a degree in applied mathematics and statistics, Matthews began her career as an intern at Old Mutual Namibia, where she gained experience in accounts administration.
Her exposure to financial reporting, reserving and insurance valuations provided a solid foundation for a career in financial services.
Alongside her academic and professional pursuits, she founded Maxima, an initiative that supports learners in mathematics and the sciences while encouraging young people to pursue their goals.
Growing in finance
In her new role at Sisedi, Matthews provides operational and administrative support across investment processes, including client onboarding, maintaining investment records, preparing reports and supporting transaction processing.
She is also involved in business development initiatives and works closely with the company’s fixed income team.
"What I enjoy most about the role is that it offers exposure to multiple areas of the business. It allows me to combine my analytical background with client-focused work while continuously learning about the investment industry."
Her immediate focus is on expanding her knowledge of investment management while building strong relationships within the organisation.
Looking ahead, Matthews hopes to grow into a well-rounded investment professional and pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.
She credits mentors from Old Mutual Namibia, Sisedi Investment Group and her university years for helping shape her career while describing Maxima as one of her greatest learning experiences.
Encouraging other young professionals, particularly women, to pursue careers in finance, Matthews says: "You do not need to know everything before taking the next opportunity; confidence grows through experiences, not before it.”
Outside work, Matthews enjoys strength training, swimming, fashion and content creation while continuing to mentor young people through Maxima.
As she begins this new chapter at Sisedi Investment Group, Matthews remains committed to continuous learning, professional growth and creating meaningful impact through both finance and education.
