Franna’s Butchery the go-to butchery in Otjiwarongo

Franna’s Butchery in Otjiwarongo was opened in 2024 by Francois and Marissa Swart. Since then, it has experienced rapid growth in both clientele and the range of products on offer. The butchery is located at the Urban U-Turn Complex, 12001 Hage Geingob Street, a busy part of town with constant foot traffic.

The Swarts saw a need for a butchery where customers could choose meat that meets their exact specifications, including the cut, size, packaging and type of meat. “If you walk into Franna’s, you look directly into the cold store and choose what you want, fresh. We have an open kitchen, so you can see how your meat cut is being prepared," Marissa explained.

Local and fresh

The couple prioritises sourcing meat from local farmers, which not only supports the community but also allows them to maintain control over the quality of the products they offer. “We support our local farmers like they support us. Therefore, we can be sure of the quality of our products," Marissa said. As a local butchery, Franna’s offers products and recipes unique to them, passed down through previous generations, which sets them apart from others. “Our recipes are family recipes; it is not a mixed spice packet that you can buy at a supermarket.”

A family business

Marissa acknowledged that the business could not have come this far without the support of their clients and the dedication of their staff. "If you and your staff are on the same page regarding quality, packaging and client service, you are on the right track to success," she said, adding: "Franna's clients are like family."

The couple also aims to expand the business to have the capacity to supply supermarkets outside Otjiwarongo. “We hope to continue providing quality products and improve the quality over time,” Marissa said, adding they also want to expand their butchery to “help more farmers.” They hope that their enterprise continues to grow and that the Lord will continue to bless them, so that they can eventually hand the butchery over to their three sons.
