Navigating global waters from Walvis Bay

Born in Walvis Bay, Werner Ahrens has spent the past fourteen years building a career shaped by a lifelong passion for the sea.

Today, he is internationally accredited and recognised as a marine and cargo surveyor, having travelled extensively and worked across multiple regions worldwide.

In 2018, that experience led to the founding of Dynamic Marine Survey & Solutions (DMSS) in Walvis Bay.

The company was established with a clear vision: to provide the maritime sector with a turnkey solution for vessel maintenance and repair.

“Being an entrepreneur at heart, I wanted to pursue this dream of developing a company that will make an impact in the maritime sector,” Ahrens says. “The goal was to stand among the giants in the industry and make a name for myself.”

Operating from its headquarters in Walvis Bay, DMSS delivers marine and cargo surveying services alongside mechanical, automation and electrical engineering solutions.

This integrated approach allows clients to depend on one trusted partner rather than coordinating multiple service providers.

Since its launch, DMSS has expanded beyond Namibia into South Africa, Nigeria, Angola and Curaçao.

For Ahrens, this growing international footprint reflects both industry demand and his ambition to build a company capable of competing on a global stage.

Standing strong as a team

Despite the company’s technical expertise and broad reach, Ahrens believes its greatest strength lies in its people. “Hands down, it’s the Dynamic team,” he explains. “The tenacity of our team to get the job done is second to none. They live and breathe our slogan: service, in short, is not what we do but who we are.”

Leading an international business comes with challenges, from managing time zones and cultures to navigating different languages and mindsets. Yet Ahrens credits strong teamwork and shared values for overcoming these obstacles.

Reflecting on his career growth, Ahrens encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to stay focused and resilient.

“Visualise the goal, block out the noise, detach from what’s holding you back and go for it,” he says. “Invest in yourself, it’s the best dollar you will ever spend."
