Capricorn Foundation Renews Leadership Support
The Capricorn Foundation has renewed its partnership with the African Leadership Institute with a N$480 000 contribution to support a second cohort of 29 principals and school leaders pursuing a two-year Certificate in Transformational Leadership. The renewed donation brings the Foundation’s total investment in the programme to N$960 000 and increases the number of supported school leaders to 48.
The partnership between the Capricorn Foundation and the Institute began in 2024, when the first group of 19 principals and department heads received support to complete the programme. Marlize Horn, Executive Director of the Capricorn Foundation, said the organisation is committed to strengthening leadership in education as part of its focus areas. She said that investing in school leaders creates long-term benefits for learners and contributes to positive change.
The African Leadership Institute is a Namibian non-profit organisation focused on developing leaders who can drive transformation in their communities and sectors. Its NQA-accredited Certificate in Transformational Leadership aims to strengthen school management, improve learner outcomes and support participants with the skills needed to lead effectively. Each participant completes a detailed action plan that contributes to improvements in the education sector.
Dr Chrisna von Gericke Fourie, COO and Training Manager at the Institute, said the organisation equips leaders with resilience, character and practical skills to transform Africa. She said the programme inspires leaders to bring change in their personal lives, workplaces and communities.
One of the beneficiaries, David Mushaandja, Principal of Ekulo Senior Secondary School, said the training helped the school refine its vision, mission and values. He noted improvements in academic performance, with the school ranked eighth nationally in Grade 11 and ninth in Grade 12 public school results in 2024.
The Capricorn Foundation, a registered welfare organisation established by the Capricorn Group in 2020, has invested more than N$45 million in corporate social responsibility programmes. It thanked Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Asset Management and Entrepo for supporting initiatives that bring meaningful change.
