Herman Pritzlav’s empathy-driven expertise
Herman Pritzlav exemplifies the value of loyalty and adaptability in an industry often defined by the next big thing and frequent job hopping.
Having worked in the IT industry for more than 14 years at I-Consult, Pritzlav has seen first-hand how the digital landscape has evolved, from the days of field-based, hands-on troubleshooting to the current era of AI-driven and remote support.
The role was highly personal when Pritzlav first started his career.
"Our work was far more hands-on," Pritzlav remembers. "Building relationships in person and heavily relying on people skills was a big part of the job."
That dynamic was altered by the rapid move toward remote access platforms and the impact of Covid-19.
Pritzlav says the process is now more faceless, with clients frequently recognising his voice long before they actually meet him.
On the other hand, this revolution has produced a new form of efficiency. Instead of physically visiting each location, he now multitasks by navigating several client systems at once to offer prompt assistance.
The math genius myth and AI shift
Pritzlav quickly dispels the myth that one needs to be a math whizz or a coding prodigy in order to pursue a career in IT.
He stresses that problem-solving is the essence of the work, having established a prosperous career after completing a one-year IT course.
The emphasis is still on effectiveness despite the introduction of artificial intelligence, which he describes as the most significant development of his tenure.
"AI has simplified tasks across the board, from report writing to acting as a sounding board for ideas. It enhances both speed and quality," he explains.
Empathy for clients
Hard technology is just half the story, according to Pritzlav.
Soft skills, in his opinion, are what really set seasoned professionals apart from novices. His main tools are empathy and patience.
"What may seem simple to me can feel overwhelming to someone else. Knowing that fosters trust," Pritzlav says.
"Technology will always change, but the ability to serve people well will never go out of style," he adds.
Pritzlav’s emphasis on traditional values and contemporary adaptability underpin his grounded professionalism.
It's a way of thinking that puts the person behind the screen first.
Pritzlav says his long career at I-Consult is influenced by strong leadership and a sincere desire to help people.
He would prefer to create something significant rather than continuously start over.
"Technology will always evolve, but how you treat people leaves a lasting impact," Pritzlav says. "It's more significant than any technical accomplishment if I can be recognised as someone who was dependable, personable and truly helpful."
