Entrepreneurship is a ‘24/7’ commitment - Heinrich Hafeni

For Heinrich Hafeni, leadership is more than a title – it is a daily responsibility and a constant commitment to executing a vision.

As founder of Hafeni Traditional Restaurant, a business that spans tourism and hospitality, he describes his role as highly hands-on, demanding constant attention.

“I am the visionary and the one who knows where the company must go and what must be done day by day to achieve the activities that will bring success to the company,” Hafeni explains.

From maintaining fleets and ensuring that tour guides meet high standards to overseeing restaurant operations and financial flows, his responsibilities stretch across every aspect of the business.

“On a day-to-day basis, as a CEO, you are the operation of the business.”

Hafeni also emphasises the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships with both current and future customers. “Marketing plays a critical role; the business must be known,” Hafeni says.

He likens entrepreneurship to “raising a baby”, stressing the need for constant care, nurturing and dedication. “It is a 24/7 responsibility.”

Finding a way forward

Over nearly 15 years, his career has been marked by both rewarding moments and setbacks. From international recognition, including opportunities to study entrepreneurship in the United States of America and Germany, to being inducted into the Namibian Business Hall of Fame, his career reflects resilience and determination.

Yet, he openly acknowledges challenges, including failed ventures and financial constraints.

“There were businesses that did not succeed, but leadership is about facing the storm and finding a way forward.”

Hafeni is also a strong advocate for people-centred leadership. He believes that employees are the backbone of any successful business. “Your staff is your biggest asset. Invest in them, appreciate them, and make them part of the vision.”

Uplifting others

For Hafeni, success is measured not only by profit but by impact. “Every month, people benefit from the business. Indirectly, many more lives are touched. That is what success means: growth that uplifts others.”

Driven by purpose, faith and family, he remains committed to creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation. His message to the youth is clear: "Start where you are and embrace every opportunity to learn."
