Young engineer leads Namibia’s green energy breakthrough

Megameno Maxmillion Nickanor exemplifies the spirit of visionary leadership and technical excellence. At just 26, he has already made a significant impact on Namibia’s green energy landscape. As a plant engineer at Daures green hydrogen village, he is among the youngest engineers entrusted with commissioning the country’s first 100 Tonnes Per Annum (TPA) Green Ammonia Plant, positioning him at the forefront of Africa’s energy transition.

On 12 September 2025, he participated in Namibia’s first pilot green ammonia sulphate fertilizer groundbreaking from renewable hydrogen. Earlier in the month, from 9 to 11 September 2025, he contributed to Daures Green Hydrogen village, winning the "Namibia hydrogen project of the year award" at the global African hydrogen awards. His appointment as Khomas Region’s green hydrogen ambassador, selected by GIZ Namibia in collaboration with HYPHEN Hydrogen Energy and NH2PH, further reflects his commitment to sustainability and youth empowerment.

Previously, Maxmillion was part of the Heat and Moisture Exchanger (HME) team at B2Gold Corporation, where he helped elevate departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to 85 percent across Hauling, Drilling, and Loading, demonstrating his operational acumen and drive. His contributions span technical innovation, regional advocacy, and capacity building, making him a role model for young engineers. His leadership is bold, hands-on, and rooted in the vision of a greener, more inclusive future for Namibia and beyond.
