Cornell Meeks: Taking executive experience beyond the boardroom

Cornell Meeks has built her career across auditing, financial management, corporate banking, credit and executive leadership.

Now, as the founder of an independent business advisory practice, she is using that experience to support owner-led businesses in Namibia.

Meeks began her career in 2002 at Grant Thornton Neuhaus, where she worked in auditing until 2006. She obtained a bachelor of accounting (auditing) from the University of South Africa in 2005 and completed her audit articles through the professional training pathway associated with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia. In 2022, she completed the executive development programme at the University of Stellenbosch.

Her career progressed through financial leadership positions at Namibia Asset Management, where she served as chief financial officer from 2006 to 2009, and the Rössing Foundation, where she held the same position from 2009 to 2013. She subsequently worked as a senior credit manager at Standard Bank Namibia from 2013 before joining FNB Namibia as a business account executive in 2016.

In 2018, Meeks joined Nedbank Namibia as head of private wealth, where she spent eight years establishing and leading the business. Her responsibilities included developing the business model, establishing operational and governance structures, building relationships and improving processes.

The experience reinforced her belief that successful leadership requires more than strategy.

“Developing a strategy is one thing, building the people, processes and discipline required to execute it consistently is quite another,” she says.

Helping businesses thrive

On 16 April 2026, Meeks established her independent business advisory practice, bringing together her financial, commercial and leadership experience. She assists established, owner-led businesses with financial performance, cash flow, profitability, operational improvements, internal controls and management practices.

Her approach extends beyond identifying problems to helping business owners implement practical solutions.

“My role is to provide an experienced external perspective, work through the findings with the owner and help establish practical improvements,” she explains.

Meeks believes effective leadership also depends on emotional intelligence, accountability and the ability to understand people.

“Good leadership combines clear expectations and accountability with accessibility, empathy and the willingness to listen,” she says.

Looking ahead, she aims to build an advisory practice known for its practical contribution to Namibian businesses. For Meeks, success means helping entrepreneurs make informed decisions, strengthen their organisations and build businesses capable of sustainable growth.
