PowerCom CEO balances business goals with public interest

PowerCom chief executive Beatus Twelitega Amadhila says telecommunications infrastructure is vital for Namibia’s economic growth and national development, as the industry embraces digital systems and new technologies.

Appointed on 1 June 2021, Amadhila has led the company through a period of significant change in the sector.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a postgraduate diploma in business administration, a master of business administration from the University of Namibia (UNAM) and a master of commerce in development finance from the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Amadhila said his leadership is grounded in strategic thinking, financial discipline and execution.

“My focus has been on aligning strategy with operations and ensuring organisations deliver long-term value,” Amadhila added.

He said his move into executive leadership was driven by a desire to go beyond operational performance and focus on sustainability and impact. His goal, he explained, is to contribute to Namibia's long-term economic value and public benefit.

Connections crucial for development

Amadhila pointed out that telecommunications infrastructure plays a wider role than many realise.

“It supports business, education, healthcare and government services. Connectivity is now essential for economic participation and growth,” he stated.

The sector, he stressed, is complex, requiring leaders to balance investment decisions, regulation and stakeholder interests.

Amadhila said his experience in both private and government-linked organisations has shaped his leadership style.

“It taught me how to balance commercial goals with public responsibility."

He added that clear strategy and accountability are key to leadership, highlighting that strategy without execution does not work.

PowerCom’s future

The company’s current priorities include improving efficiency, strengthening infrastructure and expanding revenue opportunities.

Amadhila said the industry is moving towards fibre networks, data systems and digital platforms.

“We must adapt by using data, embracing technology and maintaining strong governance,” he noted.

He said challenges include limited funding, fast-changing technology and managing different stakeholder expectations.

“The biggest challenge is keeping everyone aligned while staying focused on long-term goals,” he added.

Amadhila sees opportunities in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and partnerships.

Looking ahead, he aims to position PowerCom as a modern, digitally driven infrastructure company that supports both public and private sector growth.

Leadership tips

Amadhila also highlighted the importance of leadership and skills development.

“Leadership is earned through credibility,” he said. “Young people should focus on building strong skills first.”

He added that he is motivated by making an impact and shaping future opportunities.

“Leadership requires time to think and reflect,” he added.
